Walk the streets your grandparents walked. Visit Ode-Itsekiri and the Niger Delta coast. Cook with grandmothers. Meet the people whose lives our programs touch. We are designing the first guided INC-USA Heritage Trip now — itinerary below is the working draft. Add your name to the interest list and help us shape it.

DAY 01

Arrival · Lagos

Land Murtala Muhammed. Overnight at the diaspora base hotel. Welcome dinner with the heritage team. Logistics briefing.

DAY 02

Lagos → Warri · by road

Scenic seven-hour drive through Ogun and Ondo. Bush-meat lunch in Ore. Arrive Warri by evening. Elder welcome ceremony.

The Olu's Palace

Royal welcome at the Palace of the Olu of Warri. Halls where your ancestors were received. Brief audience; photography permitted.

Ode-Itsekiri · ancient capital

Boat to the island capital. Walk the ruins. Learn the founding narrative. Lunch on the water with local elders.

DAY 05

Koko · ancestral villages

Genealogy team works on-site to trace your lineage. Family reunions for travelers whose relatives live locally. Emotional day.

DAY 06

Iwere Care clinics

Tour the solar-Starlink clinics. Meet the patients, the nurses, and the volunteer physicians. See your donations at work.

Community service day

Split into three teams: paint a school, deliver clinic supplies, or run an Iwere reading hour. Lunch with local educators.

Escravos · the Atlantic coast

Boat to Escravos where the rivers meet the sea. Walk the sand. Swim if you are ready. The closing ritual is here.

Cooking with grandmothers

Morning at Mama Ejiro's kitchen — banga, starch, owho. Afternoon debrief with the elder council. Farewell dinner.

Warri → Lagos → home

Early road to Lagos. Final group lunch. Airport drop-off. You fly home a different person.

No Itsekiri is turned away
for financial reasons.

Who we hope to carry home.

Any person of Itsekiri descent or their spouse/partner will be eligible. Children may join the Family Roots variant with a parent. Membership will be encouraged but can be completed during the application itself — no existing member status needed before applying.

A scholarship pool is being designed for students, first-time travelers, and members facing financial hardship. Final terms (number of spots, what is covered, airfare aid) will be set before the first trip is announced.

Scholarship priority criteria

  • First-time traveler to Nigeria (highest priority)
  • Full-time student · under 28
  • Young professional in first five years of career
  • Elder (70+) who has not returned in 20+ years
  • Member whose direct family resides in Delta State
  • Second- or third-generation Itsekiri American
  • Academic researcher with project tied to Warri
